Design Patterns: Presentation

This past week I had to give a presentation about Design Patterns at for my Senior Seminar Class. This presentation covered the three basic types of Design Patterns. My sources included "Design Patterns, Elements of Reusable Software" (Gang of Four) The "Head First: Design Patterns" and Wikipedia.

Creational Patterns
Behavioral Patterns
Structural Patterns

Maybe ill post a video on youtube and here in a bit. Here are the slides for now.

It Get's Better

ASP.net MVC2, Senior Project, and other info

So there hasnt been much chatter on here lately. Sorry for the hiatus. I have been extremely busy ever since I got back from my internship to New York. This is the Fall semester of my Senior Year. This means I have been busy planning and beginning to implement my Senior Project. All Computer Science majors from Millsaps College are required to develop their own Senior Project, which in most cases is an application of all the things they have learned during their time at Millsaps.

TechTalk: The Singleton

Earlier this summer I spoke about a concept called Design Patterns. Design Patterns are defined as ways pieces of software are created. This is sort of similar to a recipe in a kitchen, and provides a mold for developing various algorythms. One of the common design patterns is a Singleton. A Singleton occurrs when only one instance of an object can be instantiated throughout the lifetime of a thread. This has several implications.

TechTalk: Caching

So over the past few months I have made significant progress in my ability to program effectively for web development platforms which are driven by databases. These applications can be easily extended as well as scaled to suit different purposes. This week I will discuss the techniques associated with caching. Caching is a term which is used to refer to saving repeatedly used data in a place which is more quickly accessible. By using caching techniques the performance of a web application can be greatly optimized.

Over the past two weeks... Broadway Shows, More food, Statue of Liberty.

Wow ... Time flies in NYC. Just to think that in under a month i will be back in Jackson, Mississippi planning to begin my senior year at Millsaps College. The past couple of weeks have been pretty eventful. My parents came to visit the Big Apple for the July 4th weekend. We got to do a lot of fun things together while they were here in the city. Here are some of the highlights.

Third Week already over. Celebrity Encounters :D

So here is a recap of what has happened during my third week in New York City. The week began with me having the opportunity to meet Rupaul. For those of you dont remember. He had a TV show in the nineties on VH1 which was about drag. Logo Networks which is a property of MTV Networks is getting ready to launch a new TV show called Drag U. For that reason they were promoting the TV show in the lodge. Rupaul was there. There were also free cocktails.

Career Chat: Some helpful tips

Getting an internship at MTV was deffinitely an opportunity of a lifetime. There were so many applicants, and only a few people who got selected but there are several things that everyone can do to set themselves apart from the rest of the crowd. Since living in New York I took the time to think of the strategies that have helped me get to better places. Here is where I will share some of my strategies.

Networking

TechTalk: Design Patterns

Being a Computer Science major a large component of my internship at MTV Networks has been learning about the ways website applications are developed in the real world. When I got here i discovered that I had learned some of the concepts that I needed but there were a few things that were missing. One central aspect of developing programs for any organization, for any platform are coding standards. Coding standards help programmers all create applications which function similarly because the algorithms and procedures are laid out similarly.

Recap of my Second Week.

So I know i promised a lot more pictures and video. They will come eventually. I should remember to take my camera with me more often. A camera is just one of those things I dont want to lose in all the various places in New York where things can get lost.
